Single-purpose boats are falling from favor. Boston Whaler’s new 270 Vantage, a dual-console model, succeeds at a variety of missions, with little compromise we could detect.
The boat does fish: Four rod holders are standard and you can order a livewell, fish box, 3 transom rod holders and hardtop with rocket launchers. Stash the bow cushions and create a casting deck. Stow the custom-built transom seat with a sloped backrest, separate from the coaming bolsters — and you have a spacious fish-fighting cockpit.
One of the big treats is the companion console seat. It’s double-wide, and the backrest boasts custom stainless-steel hardware that allows the seat to configure in five positions. These include back-to-back ski observation to a leaning post to a flat sun lounge to a reclining lounge that faces fore
or aft. It’s an easy system to manipulate.
The optional hardtop includes a tow point for water sports, and if you’d rather forgo the shade, a water-sports tower is offered. An optional bimini allows sunning or shade.
If you want to cruise and overnight, it seems to have everything needed, including a spacious private head. Plus you can add a summer kitchen complete with inverter, charging system and shore power.
It’s a multiskilled operative, but with more specialties than a general practitioner.
