Boaters seeking plenty of amenities, rough-water ability, superior corrosion resistance and shallow-water wherewithal should check out the EdgeWater 205CX. It’s self-bailing and unsinkable too, and so it comes with a peace of mind many boaters crave.
Based upon EdgeWater’s successful 205 Express, the 205CX “crosses over” from fishing to pleasure and ups the seating capacity with expansive bow lounges upholstered in rugged yet comfortable vinyl with accents, such as the bolster-top backrests and triple stitching. There is an anchor locker that also conceals a bow boarding ladder, which makes loading and offloading your crew a snap at the sandbar or cove. We noted with a smile that the locker’s lid, like all those aboard the 205CX, is finished on both sides. Flip-up cleats and sturdy grab rails are bolted in place.
Open the wind-blocking door between the split windshield, walk aft, and check out the optional marine head inside the port console. To starboard is the helm, where our test boat featured a swiveling captain’s chair mounted atop a livewell. Gauges, switches and controls are ergonomically arranged and easily accessed underway.
Discover massive stowage within the aft bench, or lounge out on the back-to-back seating module located to port. For skiing, this also allows a spotter to sit and face aft. Yet another swim ladder is installed at the swim platform, and the gunwale top rod holders easily handle stowage and deployment of your fishing rods.
Putting the 200 hp Yamaha F200 outboard into gear, we noted that the 205CX jumped onto plane with enough authority to satisfy an experienced skier and enough grunt to get a tube full of family or friends careening across the water. At wide-open throttle, the Yamaha propelled the 205CX to more than 46 mph. That this engine tilts clear of the water completely makes navigating shallow waters less stressful, and of course, it’s well known that outboards are the most corrosion-resistant form of marine propulsion. Two more reasons to like EdgeWater’s 205CX crossover boat.
