Seems like everyone is taking a shot at building jet boats this year. But while competitors source power to fit their hulls, Yamaha continues to engineer its engines, boats and components, assembling them all in its own factories using state-of-the-art robotics to ensure each boat is the same as the one before it on the line.
The beauty of jet power is exemplified in the SX240 HO. Twin engines drive jet pumps that give linear acceleration and thrust perfectly aligned with the keel. The SX240 leaps up on plane with nearly no bow rise to rob the view ahead. There is no trim to adjust. Turning? These pumps hook up hard and respond instantly to a hard-over helm, cutting with equal dexterity in either direction.
But the SX240 isn’t all about go. It’s also about relaxation, and the cockpit and swim platform are ideally suited for hanging out on the hook or sandbar. Luxury seating surrounds the cockpit. The passenger seat can convert from forward-looking to an aft-facing lounger. Step to the transom and the platform is nearly flush with the water. Surrounding it is two-tier seating with slightly reclined seat backs of softly padded bolsters.
Forward, lean back against the reclining seats and lay your arm along the coaming bolster. Stretch your legs forward; there’s plenty of room for taller adults. For the kids, pull up the forward cushion and flip it around to make the jump seat’s back. Now you’ve got two secure seats inside the boat, but right up front where the ride is the most thrilling.
Yamaha sources the best stereo equipment and covers it in the same warranty that covers the boat and motors. To add to the ease of ownership, freshwater flushing ports are built right into the cockpit, making it easy to rinse the engines after a saltwater cruise. Plus, no other jet builder has Yamaha’s patented jet pump clean-out ports that allow you to clear the jets of thrust-robbing debris without getting out of the boat. That’s a feature that makes the jet boat a deal for us.
