The Coasties selected FLIR M-series forward looking infrared imaging technology to assist them in emergency response and search and rescue. With the M-series devices, infrared imaging lets them cut through the dark to see items as small as a coconut at a distance. The FLIR system’s gimbal is gyro stabilized to keep a steady image on the MFD’s in Coast Guard boats and Cutters.
