We Say: Dusky’s 33 Open Fisherman carries forward the build-it-tough value that has earned this brand a serious following of saltwater anglers. The 33 sports a running surface with a pair of steps to create a cushion of air for a soft ride and to boost speed and fuel efficiency. The hand-laid fiberglass construction eschews underlying wood structures in favor of rot-free composite materials for support.
Twin 300 Suzuki V-6 outboards hung off the Dusky Drive bracket on our tester, allowing for a full transom. The boat rode smoothly and cornered without tripping. We hit 30 mph in 7.6 seconds and maxed out at 53 mph.
The helm has room to flush-mount a 15.5-inch flat-panel display. Three storage compartments lie below the elevated foredeck, with an anchor locker in the forepeak and a fish locker under the forward deck. In the transom is a 40-gallon livewell, offering plenty of capacity to hold bait so you can fish all day. Given its features, performance and price, this Dusky boat ranks as a great value.
Who’d Want One: Offshore anglers intent on chasing dolphin, king mackerel and sailfish or fishing wrecks for snapper and grouper.
Another Choice: Regulator’s 34 CC ($254,995 with twin Yamaha F350s) is another boat with bracket-mounted outboards, a full transom and a similar cockpit layout.
Bottom Line: $160,000 as tested; dusky.com
