Princecraft celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2014 with the introduction of a brand-new, midrange series of pontoon boats called Quorum. A Quorum 25 can be had for as low as $36,000 — or you can option one to the max like Princecraft did to our test boat. What did this test reveal?

Powered by a 150 hp Mercury 150 four-stroke outboard motor, our test boat ran over 34 miles per hour and raced to 30 mph in seven seconds. The test engine turned 5,930 rpm at wide-open throttle — about 100 rpm more than the specifications call for and exactly what we like to see aboard a lightly loaded test boat.

We also discovered that Princecraft Quorum-series pontoon boats allow owners to customize the boats to a large degree. They are offered in a classic configuration, boasting an L-shaped aft lounge, an XT setup featuring opposing sofas in the stern that create a corridor down the center of the cockpit, and our test boat’s “SE” layout. The SE version incorporates a bar into a corner module, complete with four adjustable stools. We found this layout very amenable for entertainers. We recommend the XT version for pontooners who prioritize water sports, and the classic configuration for those seeking boundless waterborne fun. The optional camper canvas enclosure on our test boat makes for season-extending fun.

My bling meter redlined because this boat was also equipped with an Elegance Package, an option also brand-new for Princecraft’s 2014 anniversary model year. In addition to a snazzy logo on the side panels, a wood-grain table and Infinity vinyl on the stern swim platform, the Elegance Package offers LED lighting almost everywhere, including on the cup holders, stereo speakers and cockpit sole.

Underneath all the goodies, the Quorum 25 SE retained the core structural quality that has enabled Princecraft to thrive during 60 years of boatbuilding. The list of these attributes is long, and we’ve covered them before, but start out by checking the heavy Z-shaped cross channels, 1¼-inch anodized rails and full-length skirting when comparison shopping.

Buyer’s Spotlight
*Feature-laden customization comes at a midline price point.
*We loved the bar in the stern of the SE version.
*Great balance of performance and economy is evident under power.
