Starcraft’s Coastal 2009 OB features an obvious fishing slant. Its bow casting deck includes two fishing chairs with lock-down backrests, a recirculating, aerated livewell with rounded corners that ensure bait doesn’t swim itself to death, and a plug for the optional trolling motor. A bow anchor locker, with four-step telescoping ladder, is located below a flush hatch to keep the deck snag-free. Rod stowage is tucked within the starboard inwale.

The Coastal sports a more traditional deck-boat layout. A simple windscreen tops the helm console. The dash offers the basic tach, speed, fuel, volt and trim gauges, with space for additional gauges. Below, a two-part, lockable side door opens to reveal a lighted head compartment, complete with standard portable head. Opposite, a sink and storage area sits behind a portside walk-through gate. The L-shaped lounge aft stops short of the helm, allowing for a transom walk-through. Abaft, twin swim platforms flank the engine; the starboard platform houses a three-step boarding ladder.

Outboard power is a good match for the boat’s coastal fishing target. It provides more cockpit space and promises less maintenance. Our test boat’s Yamaha 150 leveraged the boat onto plane in just over four seconds, and peaked at 48.2 mph.
