Teleflex Marine announced that its new Optimus Electronic Power Steering System (EPS) will be installed as standard equipment on Scout Boats‘ groundbreaking new 350 LXF sport fishing boat, and will be available as an option on their new 320 LXF model. (Optimus EPS will also be standard equipment on the new 410 LXF, set to debut late summer, 2013.)
These state-of-the-art boats bring a new level of design and innovation to the sport fishing boat market and will offer their owners a unique blend of hard-core fishing utility, aggressive performance and first-class luxury. Powered by twin or triple outboard motors, these boats are built to confidently take the battle to the fish, even in the most challenging conditions.
Teleflex Marine‘s Optimus EPS system has been developed to handle this kind of power and to offer precise control and ease of handling while underway. Optimus EPS makes it easier than ever to turn these larger boats at speed, maintain course and deftly maneuver during extended contests with trophy fish. Adjustable speed-sensitive helm turns, wheel resistance and lock-to-lock steering travel let the operator electronically fine-tune boat handling performance to provide a custom match to the operating characteristics of the new LXF Series and boat owner.
“Every once in a while, a new boat comes along that redefines the category, and we think the LXF is that boat” said Steve Potts, CEO/President of Scout Boats. “Teleflex’s new Optimus system is a perfect match in terms of innovation and performance. We’re proud to have them aboard.”
Optimus EPS features a new electronic helm, SmartCylinders with built-in position sensors, onboard hydraulic pumps and an electronic pump control module (PCM) that controls the system. As an added bonus, Optimus EPS easily interfaces with third-party autopilot systems, including new models from Garmin and Raymarine ,and eliminates the need for a second pump and the lengthy installation and purging procedure.
