The Boston Whaler 420 Outrage—the flagship of the unsinkable line—merges massive comfort, legendary seaworthiness, and cutting-edge features and accents.
Control of the boat and its quad Mercury Verados (350 or 400 hp) comes at a huge console via a traditional stainless-steel knobbed tilt wheel and a state-of-the art Mercury SmartCraft VesselView 7-inch color display. Digital throttle and shift keeps all four engines in sync, at the touch of a single lever.
There’s space in the dash for three 16-inch displays. The Joystick Piloting system is available, as is Seakeeper gyroscopic stabilization, Active Engine automatic trim tabs, Raymarine electronic enhancements, outriggers and a full upper helm station.
Everything about this boat is big and comfortable. The helm area alone seats six comfortably—three on adjustable captain’s chairs and at least three more (maybe four) on an innovative bench that faces forward for shared adventure in transit.
Should the captain choose stand-up piloting, a seat bolster pivots out of the way, and a fold-down standing platform provides obstruction-free vision.
Each helm seat and bench position is served by an individual air-conditioning vent for dialed-in comfort. In another nod to comfortable boating, a Sunbrella canvas cockpit sunshade deploys electronically.
Fronting the console, fold-down armrests serve a three-across sun deck, with its foot section topping compartments that can become a fish box or tank-friendly storage bin. That pad can rise to create a second rank of forward seats, which, like the wraparound bow seating surrounding an electrically adjustable table, create a perfect setting for a get-together.
Rails guard the wide walkway to the bow, and gunnels house storage compartments. Coaming bolsters throughout the boat inspire confidence and provide comfort.
Aft of the helm area, a deluxe leaning post and bait-prep center bear a cutting board, electric grill, refrigerator, storage drawers, freshwater sink and even an insulated 40-gallon livewell with viewing window.
No ducking needed in the spacious cabin, thanks to its 7 feet of headroom. A V-berth invites slumber or converts into a dining center. Refrigerator, double sink and microwave oven suggest and then produce snacks and meals. A skylight provides natural lighting, a 28-inch flat-screen TV. The enclosed head features an electric VacuFlush toilet and enclosed shower with rain-shower spray head.
When it’s fishing time, the 420 Outrage offers a 24-gallon aft livewell/baitwell, a total of 11 aft gunnel and transom stainless-steel rod holders, and six more on the top-support ladders. A transom bench bottom folds away; its back remains in place to provide a secure and reassuring bolster. A dive door welcomes even large fish aboard, and two huge in-floor fish boxes can be rigged with freezer plates.
That dive door is just as handy in nonfishing times, of course, for swimmers and divers, thanks to a removable stainless-steel ladder with dedicated storage.
The 420 Outrage emerges a triple threat: a champion at onboard entertaining, pleasure cruising and fishing, in waters near and far.
