Will there be a Big Bertha in your future? How about a Dolly or a Teddy? We’re all hoping we don’t see the name Wilfred. All of these are on the 2020 list for naming storms in the Atlantic Ocean.
Where do hurricane names come from? The World Meteorological Association comes up with six lists of names, which rotate every year. If a named storm becomes a major hurricane that causes destruction when it makes landfall, the name is retired. Which is why you will no longer see names like Andrew, Katrina or Dorian on future lists of names. The storms are named in Alphabetical order, so the first named storm this year will be Arthur.
Here is the entire list of names for the 2020 hurricane season in the Atlantic.
