The sleek Supra SR 450 boasts 14 seats and measures 21 feet long, so it’s ready to take a big crew out on big water en route to the watersports action. It’s also a versatile boat, allowing skiers, wakeboarders and wakesurfers alike to carve, catch air or shred. In pursuit of these goals, the SR 450 is equipped with a host of systems to help you optimize and personalize the watersports experience. The list includes 3,000 pounds of ballast capacity, Zero Off GPS speed control, Supra Launch System 2.0, Swell System 2.0 and the Smartplate 2.0. You harness all of this wake- and wave-shaping technology via the graphic, intuitive helm interface that Supra calls its Vision Touch System.
We found the Vision Touch System slick and effortless to use. It’s a 7-inch touchscreen that we could easily read and use to control other systems. The kicking stereo and JL speakers were conveniently manipulated to provide the tunes during our test. Had we wanted to, we could have watched video on the screen, via USB, our mobile devices or an available DVD player. Systems and accessories control proved just as intuitive, with displays as diverse as fuel, engine diagnostics and rider profiles all available for viewing and customization with the touch of a finger.
From the helm, the SR 450 provides great visibility and feels powerful. Beneath the hatch, our test boat sported a Raptor by Indmar 6.2L 440 SOHC V-8, delivering 427 pound-feet of torque. This engine was purpose-built by Indmar with every component and feature specifically designed to perform aboard today’s modern tow boats and the watersports they tow. Throttling up, we rushed to a top speed of 38.8 mph, planed in 3.4 seconds (ballast tanks were empty) and achieved better than 3 mpg efficiency at 25 mph, which is quite thrifty. With the ability to produce performance numbers like that, coupled to luxurious, spacious accommodations, pleasure cruising should be added to the long list of things at which the multifaceted Supra SR 450 excels.
