The Caymas 291 sets a new standard in hybrid boating, expertly melding the best of inshore and offshore capabilities. Under the visionary leadership of Earl Bentz, this masterpiece redefines marine engineering.

This 29-foot marvel features the innovative Michael Peters SVVT twin-step hull, known for its exceptional handling and fuel efficiency across various water conditions. Designed for the passionate angler, it also accommodates family adventures and thrill-seekers alike.

Hull Design and Performance

Central to the Caymas 291HB’s outstanding performance is the Michael Peters SVVT twin-step hull, which delivers industry-leading fuel efficiency and precise control. By incorporating a pocketed bottom at the transom, a sort of reverse box that follows the V-bottom hull shape, the sides of which hook up with the water in turns to give the vessel incredible stability in turns. All benefits together include safer, greater maneuverability, allowing for sharp turns without losing stability and minimized drag due to the steps and pocket that together create an air cushion to reduce drag and optimize speed and fuel consumption.

Performance metrics are impressive: cruising at 4000 RPM takes the 291 to 40.6 MPH with a fuel burn of just 22.8 GPH. It reaches a maximum speed of 59.2 MPH at 5800 RPM, planes in four seconds, and hits 30 MPH in a little over eight seconds. Equipped with Mercury outboards and active trim, manual trim adjustments are unnecessary.

Even in choppy waters, the Caymas 291 offers a dry ride, deftly handling strong crosswinds. Its 18-inch draft makes it perfect for both inshore fishing trips and offshore adventures, without sacrificing any capabilities.

The boat’s dual jackplate setup is optimized for shallow water efficiency and it supports dual power poles – a necessity for vessels in this category.

The hardtop is thoughtfully designed, incorporating eight rod holders, a tempered glass windshield, an electronics box, and outriggers, making it a formidable choice for pelagic fishing expeditions. And, underneath the helm station is a large compartment with a head and generous access behind the dashboard for electronics service and maintenance.

Built for the Serious Angler

The Caymas 291 is impeccably equipped for dedicated anglers. An efficient rigging station includes slide-out storage, a Frigid Rigid cooler, and rigging rod holders, while tackle compartments hold tools, tackle, leaders, and more. The MinnKota Quest trolling motor at the front ensures accurate control across diverse sea conditions and features a spot lock for precision fishing. The forward elevated decks give a good platform for throwing a cast net while the dual 35 gallon livewells keep the bait healthy and frisky.

Comfort and Functionality

With its seamless blend of comfort and power, the Caymas 291 HB ensures a luxurious experience on the water. The Release brand console seats, which include teak-trimmed armrests and plush cushions, promise a smooth ride even through rough seas. The hardtop is fitted with grab rails for easy movement across the boat. The spacious console dash features two large Garmin displays and a Simrad/Mercury unit. A fully enclosed head compartment is available for extended trips.

A front lounge enhances comfort further, offering beautifully upholstered seating with arm rests, cup holders and just the right contour for comfort and security at sea. Dry storage beneath that can be plumbed for an added fish box. Forward seat cushions hide access to the windlass and all cushions can be removed and stowed to clear the deck for fishing. Added evidence of Earl Bentz’s extensive fishing and boat designing experience is evident in the many handy features such as scissor hinges that allow access below the hatches even with the cushions in place. Safety rails are recessed into the gunwales for secure hand holds that won’t interfere with fishing. Hardware is top shelf, highly polished and functional and a great example of that are the gleaming scupper strainers. Raw water wash down, fresh water supply and engine flushing ports add to easy ownership.
