It is no surprise that the V322 SS pontoon works so well with its compact Yamaha 150 hp outboard; G3 has been a Yamaha-owned boat brand for years, and the combination of quality power and sturdy, handsome aluminum-boat construction means this is an attractive package.
The triple-tube design adds our favorite fun factor in pontoons: speed! But G3’s unique U-tube shape that is square at the top makes for an extremely solid connection between tubes and crossbeams eliminating brackets to mate them. Each tube is sealed and, for added safety, filled with closed-cell foam. When we applied the throttle, the results were rewarding, as our test data below and online video reveal. Even more rewarding is the easy handling at speed from sporty triple tube construction.
Other unique construction features are the 1/4-inch spacers holding the side gates off the deck, allowing rainwater to drain away quickly. By adding rails, not panels, to the forward boarding gate, the skipper has an enhanced view forward, ideal for docking or pulling up on a beach.
Aft-facing lounges are becoming very popular among pontoon enthusiasts, and G3 has designed a pair to please anyone. Cup holders in armrests are handy, a cellphone compartment is near each lounge, and the cushioning is thick and luxurious. The gate rails dip downward slightly, affording an enhanced view for observing towed sports.
Marine carpet is standard on the V322, as is a Bimini top that shades the deck from the swim platform to the helm station. The helm station itself has a bucket seat with armrests for the skipper and a matching seat for the mate.
Forward seating extends forward from the helm on the starboard and from the amidships boarding gate on the port. On the port side, G3 has installed a handy hideaway trash can that seems almost superfluous — that is, until you’ve spent a day celebrating your favorite waterway with family.
