Boaters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, have a new reason to play their tunes at a reasonable volume. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department recently announced a new vessel noise ordinance, which states that if music can be heard from more than 25 feet away from your boat, you could be subject to a court appearance. The Fort Lauderdale PD’s marine unit will be enforcing this rule on the water going forward. It applies to all times of day, whether you’re still at the dock, anchored, or cruising within city limits.
As the marine officer says in the video, “Keep it fun, but keep it down.”
Will we see more of this in other municipalities going forward? We’ll keep an ear out to notify you of any new rules in your favorite boating locales.
