Overview
Since the ATX brand was launched by Texas-based boatbuilder Tigé in 2019, it has steadily built its presence in the watersports market and continued to enhance its reputation among wakeboat owners and riders. Focused on a combination of value and performance, the ATX lineup delivers a lot of what you need and nothing you don’t to have a great time on the water with your family and friends. For 2026, the 22 Type-S has been completely redesigned from the bottom up, adding more performance, technology and features to an already great value.
Interior and Accessories
With clean lines and unique gelcoat patterns, the 22 Type-S has a striking appearance on the water, without being over the top. Those lines are complemented nicely by the tower with an integrated Bimini and the angular features of the windshield. Up front, the pickle-fork-style bow is spacious and secure, thanks to high gunwales and quality upholstery. Move into the main cockpit and the effects of the higher gunwales are easy to see. The wraparound seating is comfortable and spacious, with upholstered armrests adding a nice touch. Underneath the seats resides a hidden star of the 22 Type-S: storage. It’s deep and abundant, so extra gear coming onboard is never a concern.
At 22-feet even, the 22 Type-S sits in the middle of the ATX lineup, boasting room for 15 people and capable of taking on 3,250 pounds of ballast. That’s plenty of water displacement to kick-up solid wakes and waves for all kinds of watersports fun, but beneath the water, the 22 Type-S’ hull is all-new, providing improved performance and handling in rougher waters. To create the watersports fun, ATX utilizes Tigé’s TAPS 3T system, built with military-grade actuators to ensure reliable performance for years on end. The surf plates and center tab work together to create great wakes for wakeboarding and powerful waves for wakesurfing, and each are easily customizable to cater to friends and family members with different riding styles or different abilities. Beginner to advanced riders will find the 22 Type-S plenty capable for all-day fun on the water.
One common complaint of newcomers to the ownership of watersports boats is all the functions and systems that come into play when it’s time to wakeboard or wakesurf. Leading-edge watersports technology is fantastic, but it can really be confusing at first. ATX has worked hard to eliminate the confusion and allow the captain and riders to focus on fun.
The helm of the ATX 22 Type-S is clean and as simple as they come, which makes operating it a breeze. Just to the right of the steering wheel is an easy-to-read touchscreen display that has Tigé’s Go operating system built in. This is an intuitive, one-touch interface that instantly optimizes ballast, TAPS 3T surf plates, and speed control for wakesurfing, wakeboarding, or even skiing. Want to go wakesurfing? Just tap the screen, then select your ability level—the ATX will take it from there with preset speed, ballast and wake-plate settings. For redundancy, you can opt for steering-wheel controls, which allow for quick operation of features such as cruise-control speed, audio volume, surf settings and more. A wireless phone charger to the left of the steering wheel is a nice touch that helps you stay in touch, and allows easy selection of music from your phone.
Engine
The 22 Type-S comes standard with Indmar’s 400 Raptor marine engine. This is a closed-cooled, 6.2L V-8 inboard marine engine based on the Ford Super Duty block, producing 350 to 355 horsepower and 404 pound-feet of torque. This engine had absolutely no problem ripping our crew around for a day of testing on Possum Kingdom Lake in central Texas. Buyers can opt up to a supercharged motor if they’d like but, as our on-water testing proved, it isn’t needed to get the 22 Type-S on plane and running, even with full ballast. If you’re shopping against the 22 Type-S, consider the Moomba Max (well-equipped at $116,870). A fellow 22-footer aimed at watersports newcomers, the Moomba Max offers up a whopping 5,000 pounds of ballast and a 70-gallon fuel tank, albeit at the cost of some of the storage space found aboard the ATX. Like ATX, Moomba is built in the same factory as a big-sister brand (Supra), and benefits from the design and technology it inherits.
Toward the transom of the ATX, you have more storage and flip-up backrests built into the compartment covers. These also make for great lounge spots whether at anchor or bow-up on the sandbar. Above the swimstep are two seating/step areas, so you can step up or down much easier. It also provides a place to sit to put on wakeboard bindings or help kiddos get ready to go. Rear lockers on each side of the engine come equipped with removable mesh nets—great for holding wet vests, ropes and the like so they don’t get brought onboard. The power tower is equipped with pivoting board racks on the arms and an over-size Bimini shade with storage sleeves up top for even more storage and carrying capacity. Bring all your gear: The ATX 22 Type-S will readily store it all.
