Zodiac boats are built to explore, says the corporate motto. The X10CC, its largest rigid inflatable boat yet, proves it is ready to do so with as many as 20 friends and family on board.
How is this so? A tough fiberglass hull is bonded to a rugged tube surrounding the gunwales of the boat. The tube aids in delivering a smooth ride by absorbing shock and vibration, and when dolphins jump and the whole crew runs to the side, the Zodiac shrugs off what might cause other boats to list severely. All Zodiac boats are built that way, but the new X10CC adds even more on-water excitement both in comfort and performance.
In our performance tests, the 33-foot vessel snapped to plane in under 6 seconds and hit 30 mph in under 10. At 6,000 rpm the speedo was tapping 62 mph, and at a more stately speed, the double-step hull offered up 1.8 mpg of economy for an impressive range of over 300 miles. That’s some exploration range.
The X10CC’s 12-foot-6-inch beam offers up an abundance of crew-carrying space and Zodiac used it to create some of the most luxurious creature comforts afloat. Three-row cockpit seating means everyone enjoys comfort at speed, but flip the middle row seatback forward and it, plus the third-row seating at the transom, creates a dinette seating area with facing lounges. Or, drop the seatbacks and create a large sun pad. There’s an entertainment galley behind the front-row seating with a sink, Kenyon grill and drawers and coolers beneath.
The center-console design gives ample walkways to the bow-seating area. Once there, we found comfortable dual lounges with upholstered arm rests and cup holders. Along the bow, wraparound seating is deep and thickly padded, and beneath is dry storage with gelcoat-finished compartments.
If you’re fishing, the bow-seat cushions come off quickly because Zodiac uses magnetic fasteners instead of snaps. Lay the cushion in place, and the fastener straps find their way to the magnetic receiver. If they don’t latch automatically, just tap them and they will. They hold securely, even at speed.
