We Test: RUX 30L Waterproof Tote

A versatile carry-all that’s built like a liferaft.

The Boating team put the RUX 30L Waterproof Tote Bag to the test in a variety of boating situations. I used it for a while to carry gear, lunch and tools between my house and my boat, a walk of several hundred feet. Managing Editor, Sue Whitney, used the bag while serving as project manager on a twenty-boat photo shoot, toting clipboards, handheld radios, a jacket and other gear, up and down the docks, and on and off bunches of boats, 12 hours a day for a week. In all, we rated this bag as top-notch.

It is rugged: tug on the handles or removable shoulder strap where these attach to the bag and you’ll know it’s built for the long haul. RUX sews it out of the same material used to build liferafts. Waterproof, you can place it down in a puddle and its contents will stay dry. It’s got two handy small pockets for items like keys, safety beacon and sunscreen while an equally-handy clasp closes  the  to keep gear inside, even if you stuff it to overflowing. The bag stands up on its own, so you can put it down to root around for your stuff without having to lean it against something. The shoulder strap is detachable. If we had to suggest an improvement, it would be to increase the size of the pad on the shoulder strap: this bag can carry a lot of gear and if you fill it with heavy items, like ice, or gallons of oil, you’d probably appreciate that.

The RUX 30L Waterproof Tote Bag comes in green, black and bronze. Available in 15L size also. $170 (30L); rux.life
