Regal 36 XO: Day-Boat Fun Meets Weekend Comfort

This versatile 36-foot express cruiser combines sandbar-friendly features with serious weekending comfort.

Whether you’re gathering the family for a day on the water, heading to your favorite sandbar or stretching the weekend into an overnight getaway, the Regal 36 XO is designed to make the most of your time aboard. Its outboard-powered layout delivers an appealing combination of performance, entertaining space and comfortable accommodations, with some clever engineering that makes this boat particularly versatile.

More Room to Enjoy the Water

One of the first things you’ll notice about the 36 XO is how much usable space Regal has managed to preserve around the outboard engines. Rather than letting the powerplants dominate the stern, Regal designed wide side platforms that make it easy to move around the engines and get in and out of the water. The platform also sits low, making boarding more convenient.

A covered, four-step stainless-steel ladder deploys on the starboard side, keeping swimmers clear of the propellers. Once everyone is back aboard, the multi-position UltraLounge makes a comfortable place to kick back. Adjustable backrests let you dial in the perfect lounging position, while storage beneath the seat keeps wet gear, snorkels and fins close at hand.

The outboard configuration also pays dividends below the cockpit sole. With the space typically occupied by sterndrives opened up, Regal creates a sizable lazarette with room for larger water toys, inflatable mats or even a Seabob. It also provides convenient access to important equipment, including strainers, seacocks, batteries and the standard 8-kW generator.

A Cockpit Made for Gathering

The cockpit is where the 36 XO really comes into its own as an entertaining platform. Slide the UltraLounge aft on its track and the seating area opens up considerably, creating more room for everyone to gather.

The starboard-side wet bar is ready for more than just mixing drinks. It includes a freshwater sink, trash bin, single-burner stove and electric grill, with refrigerated storage available in either a dual-drawer configuration or a refrigerator/freezer combination. Regal also built in a thoughtful safety feature: Cooking surfaces automatically shut off when their protective covers are closed.

Across the cockpit, comfortable seating accommodates five or six guests around an optional side-mount teak table. There’s even a drop-down TV that pivots out of the hardtop, making it easy to catch a game while relaxing at anchor.

On a pleasant day, large side windows, an expansive windshield and the electrically retractable hardtop let plenty of fresh air flow through the space. When temperatures climb or the weather turns, close the glass salon doors and side windows and enjoy the comfort of an air-conditioned enclosure.

A Helm That Puts Everything Within Reach

At the helm, Regal strikes a nice balance between modern technology and straightforward operation. The extra-wide captain’s seat features a flip-up bolster for standing while underway, along with built-in and flip-down footrests to help dial in a comfortable driving position.

Two 16-inch Garmin displays anchor the glass dash, incorporating digital switching and animated vessel graphics. Rather than simply showing system information, the graphics provide visual confirmation of functions such as lighting, hardtop position and other onboard systems. Traditional push-button switches remain within reach for frequently used functions, including the horn and windshield wipers. It’s a practical combination of touchscreen technology and familiar hands-on controls.

A Comfortable Place to Stretch Out Up Front

Getting to the bow is straightforward, thanks to tall handrails that exceed ABYC standards for added security. Once there, the forward lounge offers another inviting spot to enjoy the ride or settle in at anchor. Keep it in sun-pad mode for stretching out, or raise the pop-up backrests to create forward-facing seating. Integrated cup holders and charging ports add the finishing touches.

Overnight Comfort Below Deck

The 36 XO isn’t just built for entertaining during the day. Head below, and you’ll find accommodations that make an overnight stay or extended weekend on the water a realistic option.

The forward stateroom centers on a walk-around island queen berth, so neither partner has to climb over the other to get in or out of bed. Side ledges, overhead cabinets and a cedar-lined hanging locker provide convenient places to stow clothing and personal belongings.

A compact galley area adds a microwave and solid-surface countertop, while the mid-cabin provides a flexible space for additional guests. During the day, it serves as a comfortable lounge with a couch and dedicated TV. When it’s time to turn in, slide-out filler cushions convert the area into a queen-size berth, giving kids, friends or another couple a comfortable place to sleep.

The Best of Both Worlds

The Regal 36 XO makes a compelling case for boaters who want more than a traditional dayboat without stepping into a full-size cruiser. Its open, sociable cockpit, thoughtfully designed swim platform and generous storage make it well suited to days spent entertaining and enjoying the water. Add comfortable overnight accommodations and the versatility of outboard power, and you have a boat that’s just as ready for a spontaneous afternoon outing as it is for a weekend getaway.
