The Yamaha AR195 is based on a new 19-foot-5-inch hull that’s 3 inches longer and 2 inches wider than last year’s model. Do a few inches matter? They can if that extra space is managed well, and Yamaha has put a lot of thought into the cockpit of this new model.
The AR195 features a new cockpit layout with a bench seat wrapping from the stern all the way to the port console, which is padded as a backrest for an observer. The sole behind the helm is now open for stowing a 25-quart cooler below a detachable table. Even with the table in place there’s always a clear walkway through the boat. The bucket seat at the helm is slimmed down and the lower portion of the backrest is cut away to allow the driver to pivot without unlocking the seat swivel. A larger port console offers more stowage space, and its inboard surface is angled toward the cockpit so it’s easier to reach the lockable door. Bow seat cushions and the port aft seat cushion are now hinged and easier to open than the previous lift-off cushions. The AR195 model includes a watersports tower with integrated sun top.
The helm features a new side-mount control that saves some space. On the dash is a new Connext 4.3-inch color touchscreen info display, a remote control for the premium Clarion/Polk Audio system, and a pivoting mobile-phone holder. Rocker switches control the Yamaha No Wake Zone and Cruise Assist speed-control functions.
The new hull features a reshaped keel to improve low-speed tracking, and the shape of the strakes and an extended running surface are intended to reduce bow rise on acceleration. The AR195 is powered by the 1.8-liter supercharged 250 hp Yamaha SVHO, the most powerful engine in the Yamaha portfolio. The jet drive features a new reverse bucket that improves lateral thrust for better control around the dock, and the Yamaha “articulated keel” rudder has been revised to reduce drag. Attention to detail by Yamaha makes the new AR195 better than ever.
High Points

- Great transom design for lounging.
- Outstanding fit, finish and components.
- Base price includes a disc-brake trailer.
Low Points
- Action of the side-mount control is not very smooth.

- High-rpm jet drive is noisier than an outboard.
Toughest Competitor
The 18-foot-10-inch Scarab 195 ID ($43,212 with 250 hp Rotax jet drive and optional tow-sports tower) also has a great transom lounge area, but there’s less room in the bow and cockpit. It’s available with up to 300 hp.
