A New Era of Onboard Energy
Traditional diesel or gas generators have long been the standard for onboard power, but their noise, vibration, and carbon emissions compromise the peaceful experience boaters seek. The CayCube from Cay Electronics offers a revolutionary alternative—a solid-state, silent power source that won the prestigious Newport Boat Show Innovation Award in 2025. This maintenance-free system delivers home comforts like air conditioning, freezers, and microwaves for up to 48 hours without fumes or noise.
What Are Solid-State Batteries?
Solid-state batteries offer the next generation of energy storage. Unlike conventional lithium batteries that use a gel electrolyte between the anode and cathode, solid-state batteries employ a solid membrane. This technology is approximately 40% more energy dense than standard Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, enabling the CayCube’s compact design. These batteries also survive more charge/discharge cycles and can discharge to 10% state of charge without shortening their lifespan. Major automakers including Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, and BYD are scaling production, with vehicles boasting 800-mile ranges expected within the next two years.

Safety and Durability at Sea
The solid membrane in these batteries has a higher flammability point than even the already-safe LiFePO4 chemistry. CayCube uses non-combustible, non-toxic chemistry with no liquid electrolyte to leak. The batteries are also more resistant to physical damage—a critical advantage in the marine environment.
Replacing the Generator
With no moving parts, the CayCube requires zero maintenance and eliminates the need for cooling water plumbing, fuel lines, or exhaust manifolds. It delivers instant full power without warmup and provides 48 or more hours of runtime. Recharging options include shore power, solar, wind, or an optional 8kW dedicated alternator that charges at full speed while underway.
Models and Availability
CayCube comes in three models with peak outputs of 9, 18, and 27 kW and storage capacities of 20, 40, and 60 kWh. Systems range from $29,000 to $70,000. Backed by Cay Electronics’ 40 years of marine expertise, it represents a genuine path to maintenance-free, carbon-free boating.
